Europa: vorig jaar 1,5 GW aan offshore wind erbij – nu 4,9 GW op komst
26 januari 2017 – In 2016 hebben de Europese lidstaten samen voor 1,5 GW aan offshore windturbines bijgeplaatst, waarmee het totaal aan geïnstalleerd offshore windvermogen op 12,6 GW komt. En er wordt nu volop gewerkt aan een veel grotere uitbreiding: met maar liefst 4,9 GW.
Er staan bij 10 lidstaten nu in totaal 81 windparken in zee. De aanwas vorig jaar was overigens bijna de helft minder dat het jaar daarvoor, maar dat was duidelijk een tijdelijke hapering: er is nu voor 4,9 GW aan vermogen onderweg.

‘(…) ‘Komend jaar zou er voor 3.000 megawatt aan vermogen geïnstalleerd moeten worden’, vrijwel allemaal op de Noordzee, zegt Giles Dickson, topman van WindEurope uit Brussel. ‘We liggen op koers om in 2020 een capaciteit te hebben van 25.000 megawatt. Dat is het dubbele van wat er nu staat.’ (…)’
De cijfers komen uit ‘The European offshore wind industry – Key trends and statistics 2016’, een publicatie van WindEurope. De uitbreiding van vorig jaar is vooral gerealiseerd door Duitsland, Nederland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Van de aanstaande uitbreidingen komt ongeveer de helft in de wateren rond het Verenigd Koninkrijk te staan.

‘(…) Last year’s 1.5 GW new installations were in 3 countries – Germany (813MW), the Netherlands (691 MW) and the UK (56 MW) – spread across 7 wind farms. They represent 338 wind turbines with an average size of 4.8 MW, up from 4.2 MW in 2015. Last year, saw the first 8 MW turbines deployed in the UK.
Dickson said: “We’ve installed on average one wind turbine every day in Europe for the last two years. With a strong pipeline of new projects on the way, we expect the numbers to rise quickly over the next 4 years. We should see over 3GW of new installations in 2017. And we’re set to reach 25GW total capacity by 2020 – double today’s level.
Beyond that there’s a question mark. Germany, the Netherlands and the UK have signalled further build-out of offshore wind to 2030, but other countries haven’t yet. Now is the time for them to do so, as they start writing their Energy and Climate Change Action Plans as part of the EU Energy Union.
The bottom line is Europe needs to keep up the strong growth of offshore wind to deliver the energy transition. And it’s increasingly affordable: the winning prices in the last four tenders show offshore wind is now competitive with all other forms of power generation. (…)’

‘(…) De Europese offshore windindustrie waarschuwt voor een terugval van nieuwe projecten rond 2020. Dat heeft alles te maken met de Europese richtlijn die landen verplicht om duurzame doelen te halen. Om die doelen te halen heeft Nederland bijvoorbeeld het Energieakkoord gesloten. Wat er na 2020 gaat gebeuren is niet alleen in Nederland, maar ook in de rest van Europa nog onduidelijk. (…)’
