Verenigde Staten: fors meer banen in duurzame energie

24 januari 2017De cijfers komen van het U.S. Department of Energy en  we hebben de indruk dat het geen ‘alternatieve feiten’ zijn: 32% meer banen in de windenergie en 25% meer in de zonne-energie.

‘(…) From Q215 to 1Q16, U.S. wind power jobs increased 32 percent and solar jobs increased 25 percent, while geothermal jobs decreased 25 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2017 U.S. Energy and Employment Report.
The report said that U.S. traditional energy and energy efficiency sector jobs increased by just under 5 percent, adding 300,000 net new jobs. These sectors now employ about 6.4 million people. In addition, electric power generation and fuels technologies employ more than 1.9 million workers, 800,000 of which were employed in low carbon emission generation technologies, including renewables, nuclear, and advanced/low emission natural gas. Just under 374,000 people work for solar firms, and an additional 102,000 workers are employed at wind farms, according to the report. IRENA Chief on US Renewables and Trump — ‘Wait-and-See’
Adnan Z. Amin, het hoofd van de International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) heeft de wereld van de duurzame energie aangeraden ten opzichte van president Trump voorlopig een afwachtende houding aan te nemen. Amin is ervan overtuigd dat Trump  de sector van de duurzame energie zal ontdekken als  ‘a business case too powerful to ignore’.

‘(…) At a press briefing (…) he said that globally there were 9.4 million people working in the renewables industry, with the greatest proportion in China, and in the US there were 400,000 employed in the sector, compared with 85,000 in the coal industry.And he added that “a lot of U.S. states with Republican leadership are making a lot of money from renewable energy.” (…)’
