‘Big ideas’ om te beluisteren
25 januari 2016 – Het International Energy Agency is met een interessant project begonnen: ‘Big Ideas’. Via een live-stream op de IEA-website komen vooraanstaande sprekers aan het woord over uiteenlopende onderwerpen uit het energiebeleid. Op 29 januari om 11.30 u: sir David King.
De sprekers houden hun toespraak op het hoofdkantoor van het IEA in Parijs maar via een live-stream op de IEA-website kan iedereen het volgen. Voor wie het niet live kan volgen blijven de registraties beschikbaar. De eerste aflevering was in november met Mary Robinson over ‘Role of sustainable energy in ending poverty and advancing climate justice’. (Mary Robinson is nu o.a. lid van The Elders en was o.a. president van Ierland en Hoge Commissaris voor de Mensenrechten bij de VN.)
IEA over de (onregelmatige) serie: ‘Top thinkers, decision makers and global leaders will give talks that are idea-focused on a wide range of subjects that are timely and relevant but not always directly related to energy. The aim is to foster learning and inspiration – and provoke discussions that matter. Please join IEA member countries’ ambassadors, IEA experts and viewers worldwide for these discussions, as they are live-streamed from the IEA website.’

Op 29 januari spreekt sir David King (permanent vertegenwoordiger van de UK voor Klimaatverandering) over ‘Towards decarbonising the global economy: the direction of travel after COP21’

‘(…) Sir David King is the permanent UK Special Representative for Climate Change and was the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor from 2000 to 2007, during which time he raised awareness of the need for governments to act on climate change and was instrumental in creating the Energy Technologies Institute. Before an audience of member country ambassadors, IEA experts and viewers from around the world, Sir David is the second speaker in the list of thinkers, decision makers and global leaders the Agency is inviting to give addresses on energy and other subjects.
