Brits nutsbedrijf volledig over op hernieuwbare energie
2 juli 2015 – Het Britse nutsbedrijf M&S Energy stapt volledig over op duurzame energie. Alle stroom wordt opgewekt met 46 waterkrachtcentrales in Schotland.
Aldus meldt Duurzaam Bedrijfsleven. ‘Tegelijkertijd met de aankondiging lanceert M&S Energy een fonds van £ 400.000 (€ 563.086) voor het opzetten van hernieuwbare energieprojecten en technologieën in het Groot-Britttannië. Lokale organisaties zoals scholen, bibliotheken en sportverenigingen kunnen ideeën aandragen om in aanmerking te komen voor de financiering.’
M&S Energy is onderdeel van Marks & Spencer. Het bedrijf heeft al sinds 2007 een ambitieus ‘Plan A’ waarin alle milieu- en ethische doelen van het concern samenkomen. M&S wil helpen de UK-bedrijven CO2-neutraal te maken. Voor zichzelf heeft M&S de lat heel hoog gelegd ‘with the ultimate goal of becoming the world’s most sustainable major retailer’.

‘(…) The fund’s launch comes as M&S Energy moves to supplying 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. M&S Energy will generate electricity from 46 hydro power stations in Scotland equivalent to the consumption of its customers.
