German NGOs demand to stop the sale of Vattenfall’s lignite assets in Germany

Twelve environmental and developmental organisations based in Germany are calling for a stop of the sale of Vattenfall’s lignite assets in Germany. One day before a parliamentary debate on the issue, the NGOs address their critique to Members of the Swedish Parliament by means of an Open Letter. Instead of selling off its lignite assets to EPH, Vattenfall has to take responsibility for climate, environment and the local communities in Lusatia, the organisations are demanding.
“As Vattenfall’s German lignite plants emit more CO2 than all of Sweden, adopting a phase-out plan for is arguably the most important contribution that the Swedish government could make to fight climate change”, they say. …
