Groei offshore wind in Europa vorig jaar verdubbeld
4 februari 2016 – Vorig jaar is in Europa dubbel zoveel vermogen aan offshore windmolens geïnstalleerd dan het jaar ervoor: ruim 3 gigawatt. Ook werd er, met 13,3 miljard euro, twee maal zoveel geïnvesteerd in wind op zee dan in 2014.
Dat stelt de European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).
‘(…) Giles Dickson, Chief Executive Officer of the European Wind Energy Association, said: “It’s good to see the high level of investments in offshore wind in Europe in 2015. The 3GW of new capacity additions is also encouraging though it includes a large backlog of grid connections from 2014, especially in Germany. (…)’
Duitsland sloot een enorme hoeveelheid offshore windturbines aan op het grid, 2.282 megawatt. Daarmee werd het verreweg de koploper in Europa, met Groot-Brittannië (556 MW) en Nederland (180 MW) erachteraan.

‘(…) In absolute cijfers blijft Groot-Brittannië voorlopig Europees kampioen windenergie op zee met een totaal van 5 gigawatt. Duitsland volgt op de tweede plaats met iets meer dan 3 gigawatt. (…)’
Woensdag kondigde DONG Energy de bouw van een enorm windpark in de Britse wateren aan, waarmee Groot-Brittannië die koppositie waarschijnlijk nog wel even houdt.
De totale Europese offshore windcapaciteit is nu ruim 11 gigawatt. Als de projecten waar nu aan gebouwd wordt, afgerond zijn, komt daar nog eens 1,9 gigawatt capaciteit bij.
De EWEA ziet niet alleen meer windturbines, maar ook grotere. De gemiddelde capaciteit van een turbine steeg van 4,2 MW naar 3,7 MW.

‘(…) “New capacity additions will be lower in 2016 than 2015 though should then rebound, and we can expect to have over 20GW offshore wind in Europe by 2020. The real question is what happens after 2020. The industry is making real progress in reducing costs. But we need Governments to give us a clear vision of the volumes they envisage long term and the regulatory framework they’ll apply to drive the necessary investments. Active collaboration between governments is also key: to align their efforts to develop the sector in the North Sea and Baltic.” (…)’
