The specialisation in Physical Chemistry offers education in connection with state-of-the-art research aiming to fundamentally understand, design and control the functioning of molecules and materials. The specialisation appeals to Chemistry students with a strong physical interest and Physics students who focus on chemical aspects. Examples are self-organization of complex molecular systems, structure-function relationships of nanostructured materials or fundamentally understand the structure of molecules and the way they interact. This involves theoretical skills and the use and understanding of advanced spectroscopic tools to gain insight in structure and dynamics of molecules and materials in relation to the intended functionality.
