Minor Solid Earth

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
The Solid Earth Minor focuses on the geology of the lithosphere and crust and on the origin, infill and deformation of sedimentary basins. The disciplines of tectonics, petrology and (isotope) geochemistry provide insight into processes such as subduction, crust deformation, volcanism, metamorphism and continental collision, resulting in subsidence, uplift and erosion. The disciplines of structural geology and sedimentology focus on understanding structures in which oil and gas can be found or CO2 can be stored, as well as on relationships between processes at great depth and resulting deformation at the surface and sedimentary stratigraphy and paleoclimatology.
