Plannen alliantie Shell-Gazprom in gevaar door sancties VS
17 augustus 2015 – De Verenigde Staten hebben een van de grootste gasvelden van Gazprom op de lijst met Russische sancties gezet. Dat brengt de geplande alliantie tussen Shell en Gazprom in gevaar.

‘(…) De Amerikaanse regering zei vrijdag (…) dat het de export, weder-export en overdracht van technologie en apparatuur aan het Yuzhno-veld zou gaan beperken. (…)’
Dat veld, ook bekend als Sakhalin 3, is een belangrijke pijler in de alliantie die Shell en Gazprom in juni sloten, aldus het FD. ‘Het gaat om een brede alliantie voor de exploratie, productie en verkoop van gas.’
De uitbreiding van de sancties naar Sakhalin 3 is een tegenvaller voor Shell.

‘(…) It is understood Gazprom was believed to be considering selling a stake in Sakhalin-3 to Shell, which confirmed only last week that it was interested in buying a share, possibly through an asset swap. It may now have to rethink those plans. (…)
Shell, with considerable assets in the United States, would face consequences if it went against the sanction, as would other potential foreign investors. (…)’

‘(…)The US government has imposed sanctions on Russia since its military involvement in the Ukraine. The strategy of placing sanctions on new fields instead of existing ones is viewed as a means of avoiding spikes in energy prices. (…)’
Shell liet aan Reuters weten dat het met de relevante autoriteiten spreekt en de noodzakelijke maatregelen zal nemen om aan alle sancties te voldoen.
