Tweede fase van ’s werelds grootste offshore windpark gaat door
17 augustus 2016 – De tweede fase van het Hornsea offshore windpark in de Britse wateren mag gebouwd worden. Dat maakte Greg Clark, het hoofd van het nieuwe Britse ministerie van Economie, Energie en Industrie, dinsdag bekend. Het Deense DONG Energy gaat het project bouwen.
Het Hornsea Project Two windpark wordt het grootste van de wereld, met 600 turbines in een gebied van 480 vierkante kilometer, aldus DONG in een persbericht. Het windpark heeft een capaciteit van 1,8 MW en kan ongeveer 1,6 miljoen huishoudens van energie voorzien.
‘We’re determined to be one of the leading destinations for investment in renewable energy, which means jobs and economic growth right across the country.’ Dat zei Clark bij de bekendmaking, aldus de Financial Times. Het project creëert naar verwachting 1960 banen in de constructie en 580 operationele en onderhoudsbanen, schat de Financial Times.

Een woordvoerder van DONG liet aan the Guardian weten dat het nog twee jaar kan duren voor het bedrijf de definitieve investeringsbeslissing neemt.
