Bod Greenpeace op bruinkoolmijn serieuzer, Vattenfall verzet zich niet
23 oktober 2015 – Greenpeace zet de volgende stap in de aankoop van bruinkoolactiviteiten in Duitsland en levert een ‘Statement of Interest’ in bij Citigroup bank. Eigenaar Vattenfall: ‘Ieder serieus bod is welkom.’
Greenpeace Zweden maakte eerder deze maand al bekend interesse te hebben in de overname van de bruinkoolactiviteiten van Vattenfall in Duitsland. Greenpeace wil de activiteiten opkopen en dan sluiten, om zo verdere CO2-uitstoot te voorkomen. Greenpeace Nordic zette nu de volgende stap en levert een ‘Statement of Interest’ in bij Citigroup, die de verkoop begeleidt. Uiteindelijk wil Greenpeace Nordic in Duitsland een stichting oprichten met als doel de bruinkoolactiviteiten in 2030 helemaal te stoppen.

‘(…) Vattenfall zal zich in principe niet verzetten tegen een overname van die kant. “Ieder serieus bod is welkom”, aldus het moederbedrijf van Nuon. Financiële analisten schatten de waarde van de productie- en mijnbouwfaciliteiten op 2 miljard tot 3 miljard euro. (…)’
In het ‘Statement of Interest’ dat Greenpeace bij Citigroup inleverde, staat een schatting van de marktwaarde van Vattenfall’s bruinkoolactiviteiten gemaakt door Energy Brainpool Institute. Deze is een stuk lager dan 2 tot 3 miljard, aldus Greenpeace, zeker als ook de milieukosten worden meegenomen in de berekening.
‘(…) “The net present value of Vattenfall´s lignite business in Lusatia amounts to less than half a billion euros. A true market value that also takes into account the costs of recultivating open-cast mines and demolishing power plants, as well as the costs for restructuring, amounts to a liability of more than two billion euros. Moreover, when the true value including environmental and social terms is considered, this liability amounts to a double-digit billions euros figure.” (…)’
Voor de financiering van de koop rekent Greenpeace op donaties en crowdfunding. De enige andere interesse kwam van de Tsjechische energiebedrijven EPH en CEZ, stelt Greenpeace.
