Pensioenfonds Oslo stopt ‘fossiele beleggingen’
20 oktober 2015 – Het nieuwe stadsbestuur van Oslo trekt alle beleggingen van het pensioenfonds in fossiele energie terug. Daarmee wordt Oslo de eerste hoofdstad ter wereld zonder beleggingen in fossiele energie.
Het pensioenfonds van de Noorse hoofdstad trekt 9 miljard dollar aan beleggingen terug uit kolen, olie en gas. Het vorige bestuur kondigde al aan te divesteren uit kolen; de nieuwe coalitie van de Arbeiderspartij, de Groenen en de linkse SV voegde daar olie en gas aan toe.

‘(…) “We are very happy to announce that Oslo will take responsibility for the climate, both through our own policies and our investments,” said Lan Marie Nguyen Berg, lead negotiator for the Green Party in Oslo, in a statement. “Divestment sends a strong message to the world prior to the Climate Change Conference in Paris that we need a strong agreement that will ensure that we avoid dangerous global warming.” (…)’
Nguyen Berg laat in een persbericht van 350.org weten dat er ook financiële redenen waren voor de beslissing. Investeren in fossiele energie is een risico, nu fossiele brandstoffen niet gebruikt mogen worden om klimaatverandering in te dammen, zo stelt ze. De Noorse economie heeft al last van de afhankelijkheid van de export van fossiele energie, met stijgende werkloosheid door de lage olieprijs. ‘This policy change will protect our pensions from being invested in stranded assets.’

It shows that fossil fuels are history, and that shifting away from them, and to renewables, is the future. We expect and we encourage other oil producing countries to follow suit.”
350.org Europe Team Leader Nicolò Wojewoda comments: “Oslo sets an example for cities around the world and shows investors like the Norwegian pension fund that if you have committed to divest from coal, it’s time to take the jump to divest from all fossil fuels now. If you want to see climate action, you can’t continue investing in the coal, oil and gas companies that are ruining our climate.”
“Through this win and strong campaigns in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Stockholm and many more cities, divestment is moving on to an even bigger stage – we hope that national governments in capital cities around the world will take notice, and start breaking their own links with the fossil fuel industry,” he continues. Het stadsbestuur kondigde ook aan de auto’s uit de stad te weren en zo de CO2-uitstoot vóór 2020 te halveren. Fietspaden worden aangelegd, nieuwe wegen worden niet meer gebouwd en de stad krijgt infrastructuur om elektrisch fietsen te ondersteunen, zo meldt The Nordic Page.
Het staatsfonds van Noorwegen, met 900 miljard dollar een van de grootste ter wereld, maakte in juni bekend 8 miljard aan investeringen in kolen terug te trekken. En de Noorse premier Erna Solberg riep vorige week op een mondiale prijs op CO2-uitstoot te zetten en subsidies op fossiele brandstoffen af te bouwen, aldus Business Green.
