Sandbag maakt App met ‘cruciale informatie over klimaatverandering’
11 september 2015 – Hoeveel CO2 wordt er op dit moment uitgestoten per kWh stroom? En wat is vandaag de prijs voor een ton koolstofdioxide in Europa? Denktank Sandbag komt met een App met ‘cruciale informatie over klimaatverandering’.
Sandbag, een Britse denktank die onderzoek doet naar en actievoert voor effectief beleid tegen klimaatverandering, zet in de App een paar ‘verwaarloosde’ cijfers op een rij.
CO2-intensiteit
Interessanter dan alleen de groei van hernieuwbare energie of energiebesparing, is de CO2-intensiteit: hoeveel CO2 wordt uitgestoten voor elke kWh stroom? ‘The UK Committee on Climate Change suggests we need to be at 50-100gCO2/kWh by 2030 in order to meet the 80% cut in emissions from 1990 required by the UK Climate Change Act. We currently average around 400gCO2/kWh, so there’s plenty of work to do.’ De App geeft de actuele CO2-intensiteit en een voorspelling voor de komende 24 uur.
CO2-intensiteit van het grid
Helpt voorspellen wanneer elektriciteit het schoonst wordt opgewekt. ‘A breakdown of the balance between different generating types is provided, revealing current supply percentage for wind vs coal or solar vs gas. We’ll continue to improve this forecast in future, and report back on how closely it matches reality.’
EU CO2-prijs
Wat is de actuele prijs van een ton CO2-uitstoot in het EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)? ‘As Sandbag has shown before, the continuing enormous surplus of pollution permits on the EU carbon market mean the carbon price is failing to drive emissions reductions. The market is broken, and needs fixing.’
Mondiale CO2-concentratie
Hiermee is te zien hoe snel de wereld af gaat op de 450ppm CO2-concentratie, de ‘gevaarlijke grens’ waar overheden onder willen blijven.

By 2030, we need the total power supply to be around 50g/kWh, whilst the current average hovers around 400g/kWh. De App is vooralsnog alleen voor Android verkrijgbaar, aan een iOS-versie wordt gewerkt.
