Stroom zonneparken helft goedkoper dan van particuliere systemen
23 juli 2015 – Uit een studie in opdracht van het bedrijf First Solar blijkt dat grote zonneparken efficiënter zijn dan kleine (particuliere) systemen.
De onderzoekers van het Amerikaanse adviesbureau Brattle vergeleken duizenden kleine daksystemen (gemiddeld 5 kW) met grote zonneparken (300MW).
Zonnestroom uit grote systemen kost 6,6 tot 11,7 dollarcent per kWh. Voor kleine daksystemen is dat veel meer: 12,3 tot 19,3 dollarcent per kWh.
De onderzoekers over de oorzaak van het grote verschil: ‘The large gap in per-MWh costs between utility- and residential-scale systems results principally from: (a) lower total plant costs per installed kilowatt for larger facilities; and (b) greater solar electric output from the same PV capacity (300 MW-DC) due to optimized panel placement, tracking and other economies of scale and efficiencies associated with utility-scale installations. (…) Simply stated, most of the environmental and social benefits provided by PV systems can be achieved at a much lower total cost at utility-scale than at residential-scale. (…)’
De aanschaf en de installatie van grote systemen is per MW de helft goedkoper dan die van de kleine systemen. Grote systemen hebben ook een veel grotere reductie van CO2 per MW (50%).
De onderzoekers vinden dat aan de resultaten beleidsconsequenties moeten worden verbonden: ‘Thoughtful energy policy requires a thorough understanding of the relative costs of utility- and residential-scale solar PV for achieving policy goals,’ said Mr. Frank Graves, Brattle principal and leader of the firm’s utilities practice. ‘By directly comparing the costs and benefits of PV solar deployed in equal amounts of residential- and utility-scale systems based on utility-supplied data, the Brattle study provides a key contribution to the policy discussion about solar PV and should be essential reading for regulators and other policy makers.’

‘(…) In Nederland is het vanwege verschillende stimuleringsmaatregelen voor consumenten momenteel veel aantrekkelijker om te investeren in zonnepanelen op eigen dak. De energiebedrijven Eneco en LochemEnergie proberen de rechter te overtuigen dat mensen zonder een geschikt dak ook moeten kunnen profiteren van maatregelen die de duurzame energietransitie ten goede komen.
