China sluit weer een grote gasdeal met Rusland
28 augustus 2015 – Op 3 september zal China met Rusland opnieuw een grote gasdeal sluiten, waarschijnlijk over een gasleiding die jaarlijks 30 miljard kubieke meter gas naar de provincie Xinjiang (West-China) moet brengen.

‘(…) Tijdens de nationale feestdag op 3 september [zal] een grote gasdeal worden gesloten, signaleert China Daily. De Russische president Putin is dan toch in China, bij de herdenking van de overwinning van de Chinezen op de Japanners in 1945. De Russische ambassadeur sprak over de deal, maar onthulde verder geen details. Volgens kenners zou het kunnen gaan om de 2.800 kilometer lange pijplijn die jaarlijks 30 miljard kubieke meters gas naar de Chinese provincie Xinjiang moet brengen. (…)’
Waarschijnlijk worden tijdens het bezoek van Poetin nog meer energiedeals gesloten.
Vanuit Rusland zullen er twee grote gasleidingen gaan lopen.

‘(…) In May 2014, after 20 years of negotiations, China and Russia agreed to build a natural gas supply line, known as the “eastern route”, that is supposed to deliver 38 billion cubic meters of gas to Beijing and Northeast China annually, starting in 2017. (…) Negotiations on the western route, a 2,800-klometer supply line to deliver 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region over 30 years, began in 2006. Last year, China and Russia reached a framework agreement on the western route, Chen Yurong [China Institute of International Studies] said. However, the ensuing negotiations were postponed due to a tremendous drop in international oil price as well as China’s economic slowdown. (…) “China and Russia are natural partners concerning energy cooperation, since they are neighbors and highly complementary”, Chen said. (…)’
De gasdeal komt op een goed moment voor Rusland. De olie- en gasindustrie wordt geplaagd door sancties uit Europa en de Verenigde Staten. Dat leidde onder meer tot problemen om de financiering voor het enorme Yamal LNG project rond te krijgen. Rusland richt zich in toenemende mate tot China als financier en consument voor de olie- en gasindustrie. Naar nu lijkt met succes.
